OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM COUNCIL No: 319

King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

The Knights of St Columba is the largest Catholic family fraternal service organization in the UK with eight thousand members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

What has the Order done of the last few years

The work of the knights is carried out at both a local and national level. Following the KSC's successful national 'Wells for Water' campaign, which raised £277,000 other National Action Project, have been  'Partners in Health', “The Samaritans” the Knights of St Columba, in conjunction with the Christian Aid charities CAFOD and SCIAF; will raise funds for health projects in Third World Countries. The projects, normally run for three years, with the emphasis placed on the provision of primary health care, using simple low-cost methods. These projects will include providing clean water, child health care, education, drugs and projects to combat communicable diseases.

Locally, the Knights of St Columba undertake various activities to provide support and assistance to the Community at large, families, the young and  the Church. Such service can range from providing financial support for 'good causes' or sponsoring sporting activities for the youth. Knights give freely of their time and energy to enhance the spiritual well-being of the local community; distributing posters; erecting Christmas cribs in prominent places; organising seminars on social teaching; vocation exhibitions and adopting a moral stance on life issues.

Those less fortunate in society, such as the disabled, those with learning difficulties, special needs and the homeless, also benefit from KSC action.

Many Councils support such groups by providing help with transport and travel arrangements, accommodation, running 'soup kitchens' and offering advice to those in need.

Locally the Knights are active in providing funding for a number of locally based initiatives benefiting local people as well as raising funds for the more traditional worldwide causes such as CAFOD etc.

The KSC 49ers was started in Lent 2002 by Brother Peter Martin in away of making money for “Good Causes” and he has raised over £13,000.00 to the Good Causes fund.
